BilbaoKirolak, the city government company under Bilbao City Council, has announced the closure of some facilities at the San Inazio Sports Center due to a roof collapse. However, other facilities in Bilbao city remain open and operational. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation. In an interview with a local radio station, Mayor Juan Mari Aburto indicated that heavy rainfall and a large number of solar panels on the roof may have contributed to the collapse.

The solar panels were installed in 2010 by Inbisa Construcción, which won the project bid and made it the largest photovoltaic roof in Bizkaia at the time. The project initially consisted of 120 solar panels, but an estimated 168 solar panels were in place at the time of the collapse. The company's total investment in the project reached €411,000 ($440,797).

This emphasizes the importance of considering local environmental factors such as maximum wind speed and snow load when installing photovoltaic systems to provide the safest and most efficient solution.
